About Me

Hi,

My name is Robbie Keane, and I bring over 20 years of experience teaching Mathematics at every level—from early primary school to third-level education. Over the course of my career, I’ve refined a set of proven, effective teaching strategies that consistently help students build confidence, develop understanding, and achieve success in Maths.

I established Mathsplanations to share this experience in a structured, student-focused environment. Through a variety of carefully designed courses and small group grinds, I aim to support students in building a strong mathematical foundation. My goal is not just to prepare them for exams, but to help them develop the critical thinking skills and problem-solving strategies needed to excel under pressure and carry their mathematical understanding forward.

I stop at nothing

At Mathsplanations, we’ve created a purpose-built classroom specifically designed to maximise student learning. The space combines proven teaching strategies with the latest educational technology to create a highly interactive and engaging environment. Every element—from the layout to the tools we use—is tailored to support focus, understanding, and participation. This ensures that students not only stay engaged but leave each class with a deeper grasp of the material and greater confidence in their abilities.

I Love To Teach

Teaching has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From helping my younger sister with her homework in primary school to guiding students in the years below me during university, I’ve always found myself drawn to supporting others in their learning. Maths, in particular, has always been a subject I’ve loved—both for its logic and for the satisfaction it brings when a concept finally clicks. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing that moment of realisation in a student’s eyes—the “penny drop” moment—when everything suddenly makes sense and they’re excited to apply what they’ve learned.

I Take It Step-By-Step

My approach to teaching Maths is built around a clear and structured step-by-step method. I firmly believe that students struggle most when key steps are skipped—it’s like trying to climb a staircase with missing steps: frustrating, confusing, and ultimately discouraging. My job is to put those missing steps back in place. By breaking problems down into manageable, logical stages, I help students build understanding gradually and with confidence. This method not only makes Maths more accessible but also empowers students to tackle even the most challenging problems independently.

I Keep It Simple

At its core, the key to success in Maths is simplicity. The most effective way to approach any problem is to break it down into smaller, more manageable parts. By solving each simple step first, students can gradually piece together a clear solution to the bigger problem. This method not only makes complex topics less intimidating, but also helps build logical thinking and confidence—skills that are essential for long-term success in Maths.
